Talking Newb to the site

Hi everyone! I can't get enough softball and am so glad that I stumbled across these forums. I've been playing softball for about 11 years now and hopefully have many more to go (I'm clumsy and have already had one knee surgery, lol.)

The main differences I've seen (from one tournament in Hawaii compared to UK), is that we don't use mats behind the plates for pitching, and that we run to home plate rather than to a safe line, and yes, there are collisions, but I've not seen any serious injuries (bruising to shins mainly).

A) we don't use mats out here by me, and B) what the hell is a safe line?
