Default Why chase points?

In my limited experience....it seems best to go to worlds in the middle of the pack.. So Chase points if you want to play alot, but don't chase points to try and get that high seed....

Anyone else?

We went in lighter than I wanted in terms of pts last year because for the 2nd year in a row, the team decided not to play in C states against my objections. Rather than having a nice easy warmup game to start out in worlds, we ended up facing a very good team in the first round. After beating us, they ended up finishing in the top 15 or something like that.

The top seeds usually play the teams with ZERO points...in my experience the teams with ZERO points are the most dangerous...usually a sandbagging put together C team...with a douchebag as a state director...crooked as they come...

Beware of the teams with ZERO points...or the teams that have points and yet all the teams and tourneys they play have no records...

Points are usually irrelevant, if a team is there with low points, they probably are a stacked team that went out and played 1 or 2 NITs (and won at least 1). Teams with TONS of points are either "point mongers" that have to play in 47 tourneys to get there OR they are a good team that has won many tourneys. The points a team has does not "usually" indicate how good a team is. Of course, like anything, there are exceptions.

There are always teams that are examples of what the last two posts pointed out, but out of 200+ teams at D Worlds, more teams are going to be roughly what you would expect in that teams with drastically higher points are going to be better than teams that barely got in based on their hitting the magic 1,000 mark. Certainly not all for those reasons plus others and because you have 30 pts more than another team doesn't make you a heavy favorite at all. They do help though.

I know with our team we don't necessarily chase points vs. just wanting to play a lot. We're fortunate down here as there is a USSSA tourney almost every weekend and if there isn't - we don' thave to travel too far to the next state.

We all know that points for the most part don't mean much other than seedings. You can play every weekend and do very well only to suck in Worlds. The only way we can determine if a team is any good is by looking how well they do playing upper ball but even that sometimes doesn't mean much.

I wouldn't mind seeing USSSA take away the point system and just require teams to play in an NIT or State to play in Worlds - Once at Worlds just pick the draws out of a hat.
