Default Miken Maniac

There will be 3 models one for NSA, ASA, and a cheaper on that is supposed to compete with the Crush 2.

USSSA - Mega Maniac 585 (Red / Maroon)
ASA - Maniac 484 (Black)
ASA - Maniac 282 (Green) - this one is supposed to compete with Techfires

Both retailing for $300. Miken was flying around showing the bats to the retailers last week so they'll be out soon.

Reviews from SoftballFunatic on another board:

585 MEGA MANIAC is Smoke'in
---------------------------------------------------------
Actually has a bigger SS than the Freak Plus, and a softer feel which gives you a better feedback on contact. The endcaps on the Maniac are wild looking as well, I don't see anyone repouring them, they have alot of detail . I hit a large assortment of balls comp. and brands and it smoked all of them. Not saying its U-II hot but as close as a shelf bat will be.

Comparing the 585 to the OG Freak: I would say it has @ the same pop as the Original FREAK but larger SS. Thats the issue that Miken went after , you can't really increase the pop due to the BPF testing but you can increase the SS size.

A good SS is hard to find. A lot of guys play the position but there aren't that many TRUE SS's.

A pitcher...scarce on Long Island and not a lot of people are excited to take the mound anymore with the light sabers in people's hands.

Center Fielder...nowaday's in usssa tournaments, everyone is going to 5-man infield so a center fielder to cover the gaps with speed isn't easy to find.

Third Base- same idea as a pitcher but a little further away.

5-tool...outfield, infield, pitcher, hitter and speed

Definately SS.... Plenty of former baseball infielders, including myself, CAN play SS... But I will be the 1st to tell u that I am a second baseman and other "ss"s dont like to admit that. Ive seen many a "ss"s who come down thinkin theyre playing short like baseball and they SUCK on the softball field.... A year or 2 ago I might have voted for P but I have met a lot of good pitchers this year so my vote is that it is much harder to find a GOOD, LEGIT, shortstop...
