Default Ever hear this one?

So our scoreboard has a clock that runs 59 minutes for the game. Apparently we have to play the entire 59 minutes, which I don't understand. We were the home team, we were down 9-12 going to the bottom of the last inning. We score 4 runs and win the game. There's one minute left on teh clock. The game should be over.

Nope. The umps want us to keep playing. No one on either side wants to keep going but the umps insist. My next guy, one of the best hitters, hits a double, slides into second and breaks his ankle, out for summer. And there's nothing I can do - we sign a waiver form. F'ing ridiculous.

Our fields don't have clocks on the scoreboard (wish they did), but no inning starts after 55 minutes unless the game is tied.

I have played a few games where they did have clocks on the scoreboard, and I think we kept playing til it hit :00. I know you're upset about your guy getting seriously injured, but the ump isn't to blame. Knowing the game was won and you were just playing out the last minute, your guy didn't have to go that hard. He could have stopped at 1st. The next batter could have taken his time getting in the box, taken a pitch or 2, or hit a foul, and the game's over.

Once my team blew a game open and won by the run rule, but we decided to keep playing since we knew the lights would be on until the game on the other field ended. Guys switched positions with our left fielder coming in to pitch. He fielded a grounder and waited for me to get set at 2nd before he threw for the force out. Runner from 1st hit me square in the side of my knee full force, causing it to flex sideways. I don't think it was intentional - he just didn't know how to slide. Anyway, I was out for 2 weeks, and a year and a half later had surgery for a torn meniscus that resulted from that play. Not quite the same situation as yours since we decided to keep playing after the ump left, but still an injury that didn't have to happen.

Yup. He emailed me and said "I shouldn't have even been sliding, it was totally my fault."

Frustrating, still, that guy is a stud. He was laying there with his foot all sideways and people are all going "call 911" and he's going "no, no, I'll just have my wife drive me to the hospital. I'm okay." then they carry him off and his foot was practically facing the other way.
