Is it true that they have some sort of line painted next to the pitcher to protect him? If you hit it within the line your out or something like that, or is that just a rumor?

In the Vernon league I play in, (pitch), there is a long box with the rubber in it,
if a ball is hit through the box it is a DBO. I have only seen it happen once while pitching this season

That's affirmative. He certainly did.

Anybody play in the Branford league regularly? If I lived closer I would but that's about a 3 hour drive at that time of day for me. No thanks.

I play in the Vernon league, too, and as a pitcher, I thought I would like the rule. The problem is, it gives the umps one more judgement call to make, which isn't good. It's supposed to be a DBO when you hit a line drive or ground ball one foot on either side of the rubber. So by the time you play your game, the lines that are supposed to show the area are gone, and the ump decides what is close and what is not close, so it just becomes another call that you don't agree with.
