Default Bat Speed ?

I am just a average rec player but I was wondering have any of you on here ever checked to see what your bat speed is? And did you check it while free swinging or hitting a ball? I would like to know what would be a respectable swing/bat speed. Thanks everyone for your time!

Having something to accurately measure it would be cool. I would say that a free swing and a swing at a ball would vary a little since you're going to have to control the swing to hit the ball.

When I got it, I just know. Knowing would be ok, but just for novelties sake.

Curiosity makes me wonder as well. It'd be very sobering I'm sure.

Off a tee with wood & aluminum mostly (baseball).

Bat Speed: 80.5-86.5/87.5 roughly (wood was the lower speed still in the low 80s average though)

Exit Speed: 104-112 roughly (again wood was the lower speed but still in the 104-106 average range)

Been such a long time early 2000’s. A group of us were tested. If your hitting 300ft on your best day I’d say your bat speed would be in the range of 60-70 max. A LOT of variables involved so you’re not going to get pin point accurate, but with average angle/elevation this is close.

Exit speed ( ball coming off the bat ) is much more important than bat speed. Basically the amount of speed you maintain upon contact.

For reference a teammate of mine had a exit speed of around 115 & reg bat speed of 86 (wood bat). He hit legit 400-425 ft shots & even flattened a side of baseball one time. He ended up losing his leg in a bike wreck, but I was told he was big league level.

I would be more curious to see exit speed than I would swing speed. I could see a swing speed being higher but exit speed lower because of how square the ball is it. Lots of variables I would think.

Asked about this last year, heres the thread.

Bat speed testing

Should answer some of your questions, I did go on ebay and find one of these swing readers for about $40 bucks, seemed to work decently.

Now you got me interested in seeing if my bat speed has increased since last year. I'll have to take the ol' swing reader out again soon.

I got this neat little gizmo as an early xmas gift, the Zepp baseball sensor.

$150 bucks and works with your iphone, shows you your bat speed, swing path and plane, angles that your hitting the ball, and some other helpful info. You just stick the thing in a little rubber holder that slips over the knob of the bat (giggity) calibrate that sumbitch and take some hacks. Pretty cool product check it out.

No and I'm jonsing lol, were supposed to goto the indoor cages on sundays but each week something comes up for me and I cant get there. Will post about it when I do. Was able to take a few half asses cuts at work in which it did work pretty well. I think I have to mess around with the settings a bit more to get it accurate.
