Getting in on this late. Last winter I dropped a total of 30 pounds. I've gained 15 back, but when you're as big as I am it goes up and down a lot. Also I've been slacking.

My wife and I both did core plyometrics centered on the plank and really working the hips/butt area. Perfect for stability, which means perfect for everything, which means perfect-er(?) for hitting a softball. Plank routines are all over Youtube.

Did a stretching routine she got from her PT to prevent injury that really helped loosen you up. And prevent injuries.

For diet we went with a routine we could stick to. We cut ALL pop (soda if you say it wrong), almost ALL sugary bakery--we eat too much pasta, rice, and homemade pizza to go on some nonsense Adkins, but donuts and cake were gone--and only fast food if I was too tired to cook or we were going out.

Regular walking or jogging.

Not only did the weight come off, our guts (her little momma tummy, not a real gut) were pulled up and tighter.

No, it's not like when I power lifted, but my ankle was still tight and my shoulder didn't click like someone dragging a quarter down a washboard back then.

About 5 months now or so into it, became a bit lazy over this last month but I've pretty much nearly doubled weight for everything. Look a bit bigger, not quite defined yet but def feeling stronger.
